LHPOA Newsletter and Dues Notice

The LHPOA will again conduct spot treatment of the lake in our ongoing efforts to control the spread of Eurasian watermilfoil. The target date and time of this year’s treatment is Tuesday, June 16, 2020, beginning at 9 am. Please see the the Advisory Notice and Map for more information.

Board positions open for nominations

Are you looking for ways to get involved in preserving the health and condition of Lake Hortonia? Please consider serving on the LHPOA Board – we need your help!

The following positions are up for election at this year’s Annual Meeting: Vice President, Secretary, three (3) Trustees. If you would like to nominate yourself or another LHPOA member, please contact Mary Batzinger at tbatzinger@nycap.rr.com by Friday, August 30th.

LHPOA Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the Lake Hortonia Property Owners Association will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday 9/1 at Camp Wachusett.

The meeting will be preceded by a picnic from 12-1. Cost is $10 per person (no charge for children under 10).

Please RSVP to Dave Weaver (weaver92@myottmail.com) by Monday 8/26 if you would like to attend the picnic and include the # of people attending with you.

We will also have a Silent Auction at the meeting. Members can donate clean/usable items for auction. Contact Janet Weaver (weaver92@myottmail.com) for more info.

LHPOA receives grant

The Town of Sudbury and the Lake Hortonia Property Owners Association recently received an aquatic nuisance control grant‐in‐aid of up to $13,707 from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, part of the Agency of Natural Resources. The grant supports the efforts to control and prevent the spread of Eurasian watermilfoil in Lake Hortonia and to other lakes and ponds.

Lake Hortonia also received a 2019 grant of up to $15,000 for spread prevention of Eurasian watermilfoil from the Lake Champlain Basin Program and the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission. The control methods used are approved by the State of Vermont and have minimal to no impact on native vegetation and wildlife. The project runs from June 2019 through September 2019.

LHPOA Spring Meeting

A reminder that the LHPOA Spring Meeting will be held at 10:00 am on Sunday, May 26, at Sudbury Town Hall. Among other agenda items, we will discuss the Board’s ongoing plans for managing the milfoil.

The Spring Meeting of the Lake Hortonia Property Owners Association will be held at 10:00am on Sunday, May 26, at Sudbury Town Hall.

The Annual Meeting of the Lake Hortonia Property Owners Association will be held on Sunday, September 2, at Camp Wachusett. Thank you, Jessie & Matt Pescatore!

The meeting will be preceded by a picnic from 12-1.  Cost is $10 per person.  The Annual Meeting begins at 1pm.

Please RSVP by August 23 if you would like to attend the picnic and include the # of people attending with you.  We need an accurate count, as last year we over-estimated the number of attendees and therefore over-purchased the food.
